The law is a broad and complex area, and often, to a layperson when we think about lawyers, we assume that they will be able to cover all bases. Unless you have experience of legal matters, it is easy to go on thinking that they just deal with criminal proceedings.
While there are a number of lawyers out there that will cover a wide variety of areas, there are many that specialize to a very specific level, often attracting a particular type of client. Here are a few areas of law that you may not have considered needed specialist lawyers.
Equine Law
Horses need lawyers too. You may not think it, but horse law is a significant area of specialism with many different areas that need to be scrutinized over by a qualified legal professional. The horse industry is worth a considerable sum of money, firstly there is horseracing, which attracts a lot of wealthy investors. Racehorses are very valuable, and when it comes to selling or breeding them, some very complicated contracts need to be completed.
Entertainment Law
Your favorite TV show or movie will probably have had a few lawyers involved in its production. When it comes to entertainment, there are several areas that need to be considered from a legal standpoint. There are numerous contracts between artists, agents, producers, crew, production companies, and networks. Then when a show gets sold to another network, there are syndication rights that need to be worked out.
Copyright is a major area of concern when it comes to the entertainment industry. For example, there have been many legal battles that have discussed whether a piece of music has been copied by another artist.
Traffic Law
With our roads getting busier, there are a number of different areas where lawyers are needed. There may be complicated matters that surround car crashes that require legal intervention. A large number of motoring offenses such as speeding or driving under the influence may require the offender to seek out legal advice.
Digital And Internet Law
A massive growth area in the last couple of decades has been the digital sphere. With websites becoming an important hub of industry, there is a lot of money tied up in online real estate. From file sharing and copyright issues, through to child safety and the concerns of cybercrime and even terrorism, the reality of this virtual world is complicated. As technology continues to develop at breakneck speeds, the legal world will always need to play catch up in order to manage the ethical concerns that will emerge.
Estate Law
Dealing with personal estates and what happens to everything that is owned by someone after their death needs a professional touch. Drawing up a last will and testament and then handling the distribution of assets can often throw up a number of legal challenges. The process needs to be dealt with by a lawyer with a good grounding in estate or probate law.
